Edinburgh duo No Windows have signed to Fat Possum and announced a new EP, Point Nemo, due out on May 3 via their new label home. It follows their debut EP, 2022’s Fish Boy, and they worked on it in person together, a change from their previous process. They also worked with an outside producer, Ali Chant, for the first time. “Lyrically, it’s very bleak and cold,” vocalist Verity Slangen says. “It’s about that transition from summer into winter and trying to face the isolation that winter brings. The cycle that I have through the year is quite a significant one.” See the cover art and tracklist below.
The lead single is “Song 01,” a melancholic indie rock track inspired by Daniel Keyes’ novel Flowers for Algernon. “I have always been drawn to books focusing on isolation and what it is like to be outed from social groups,” Verity says. “The book emulates desperation and dread so perfectly. The song is written about that feeling, knowing that you are going to lose something when it’s all you have. Writing it opened me up to a whole new way of writing lyrics.” Watch the video, directed by Humble Film Productions, below.
No Windows have a couple of UK shows coming up, including at Great Escape Festival; see those below.
