So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE HAXAN CLOAK – “N/Y”
Bobby Krlic has released his first Haxan Cloak song in over a decade, a dark, clattering, electronic track called “N/Y.”

BEIRUT – “THE TERN”
Beirut’s new album Hadsel is out next month, and he’s given us a second taste with “The Tern.” “The base of this song comes from an old Roland synthesizer and drum machine part which I had lying around from a previous Berlin session,” Zach Condon says. “The lyrics I improvised on the spot and finished the song off by adding layers of church organs and hand percussion. I stacked the parts high despite always being afraid of overdoing it. In the end I was confused how I had written such a seemingly positive and even hopeful song, but once I took a closer look at the lyrics, I saw the real nature of the hidden defeat and triumph of caution rather than of hope.”

PHOENIX – “ALL EYES ON ME” (REMIX ft. PUSHA T, CHAD HUGO, & BENEE)
Phoenix have shared a new remix of “All Eyes On Me” featuring Pusha T, Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, and Benee. The band says, “A huge thank you to le Roi Pusha-T—most played artist in our backstage; to Chad Hugo, who always showed up when we were playing in Virginia, it’s about time we worked together. And to Benee, who worked at light speed to make this happen and added some magic. MERCI!!!”

MAPLE GLIDER – “DO YOU”
Ahead of her new album I Get Into Trouble, out this Friday, Maple Glider has shared a final advance single, “Do You.” “For me this song holds the feeling of being frustrated by someone who refuses to see who you are, no matter how much you put yourself in front of them, until eventually, you retreat,” she says. “It’s also about the self-obsession that can come as a result of that, the fixation on identity, complicated feelings of inadequacy, and the search for meaning and significance in failing relationships. As always, there are many sides to the sphere, the ball just keeps spinning.”
—
BARELY CIVIL – “COASTING MOSTLY”
Milwaukee emo band Barely Civil have shared their first new single since 2020’s I’ll Figure This Out. It was produced by Chris Teti of TWIABP (who’s recently produced records for Fiddlehead, Anxious, his own band, and more), and it’s a big, soaring, swinging-for-the-fences emo song that really benefits from Chris’ widescreen production.

DEER TICK – “DANCING IN THE DARK” (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN COVER)
As they begin their tour for their new album Emotional Contracts, Deer Tick have put their spin on a Springsteen classic. “For me, ‘Dancing in the Dark’ isn’t a song about romance, but instead a desperate plea to break out of some degraded, stagnant situation,” guitarist and vocalist Ian O’Neil says. “The narrator is filled with angst, self doubt, and the only way out is to the sheer force of unwavering will power. Bruce really shows us who he is on this one and it looks an awful lot like the rest of us.”

THE MENZINGERS – “TRY”
The Menzingers’ great new album Some of It Was True arrives this Friday. We’ll have more to say about it soon, but in the meantime, here’s one more taste.
—
PAWS – “UNCERTAIN”
PAWS’ new self-titled album is out later this month, and they’ve shared another advance single, “Uncertain.” “It’s a song about Uncertainty!,” the band’s Phillip Jon Taylor says. “In one’s self, one’s abilities, one’s mood, one’s health, one’s whatever else. It’s also about feeling ashamed and guilty for over sharing, extroverting and alienating yourself. The week that Josh and I were simultaneously writing and tracking at the house, we were just changing guitars and sounds for whatever riff it suited. This one was the third track we did and came from picking up my battered Jaguar that I haven’t used in a minute. I love the dynamics in this one. It’s kinda moody/broody and then has a Teenage Fanclub-esque (I wish) chorus. The guitar solo, which I rarely indulge, is kinda cool on this one though, and one of my favourite moments on the record for sure.”
—
HILARY WOODS – “BURIAL RITES”
Hilary Woods shares another creepily ambient taste of Acts of Light (due 11/3 via Sacred Bones), with a creepy video to match.
—
KATIE DEY – “HOARDER”
The second early taste of Katie Dey’s new album never falter hero girl is experimental electro-pop track “Hoarder.”
—
SCREAM – “DEAD CITIES”
DC hardcore / post-hardcore legends Scream have shared the second single from their first album in 30 years, DC Special. Following the power-poppy “DC Special Sha La La,” “Dead Cities” has a little more old school punk grit.

HOLLY HUMBERSTONE – “PAINT MY BEDROOM BLACK”
Holly Humberstone shared the title track of her debut album ahead of its release this Friday. She told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, “Touring is such a strange thing. I feel like it’s an emotional rollercoaster for me. Every day you kind of wake up in a new city that’s kind of strange and unfamiliar and you have all this stuff to do and people to meet and shows, and then it’s just like an overload of the senses and then you get into your hotel room and shut the door and it’s silent. And yeah, we had two days… I guess last year was my first proper experience of being away from home for a long period of time. And yeah, we wrote it in between some support tours that I was doing out there. I loved most of all of that, but there was some tricky times and I think getting into the studio just for two days was my chance to just kind of reflect and just touch base with myself and get back to doing what I love the most and kind of shut the world out, which is what Paint My Bedroom Black‘s about really.”

ALENA SPANGER (TINY HAZARD) – “AGIOS”
Tiny Hazard leader Alena Spanger has released a new song under her own name, a lovely art pop song called “Agios.”
—
GOLDEN APPLES – “PARK (RYE)”
Philly mainstays Golden Apple (members of Kite Party, Nona, and more) have shared another sunny psych-pop taste of Bananasugarfire.
—
GUIDED BY VOICES – “FOR THE HOME”
It’s another great indie rock earworm from the indefatigable Guided by Voices who will release their third album of 2023 (and 39th overall!) in November.
—
HOTLINE TNT – “OUT OF TOWN”
Brooklyn’s Hotline TNT will release Cartwheel, their Third Man Records debut, on November 3, and here’s another early taste. Like “Protocol” and “I Thought You’d Change,” “Out of Town” is a smeary blast of shoegazey indie rock that was partially inspired by The Replacements.
—
ELEPHANT STONE – “THE SPARK”
“Crafting a song is like tapping into a kind of magic that exists beyond the realm of the ordinary,” says Elephant Stone’s Rishi Dir of his band’s new single. “I’m in perpetual pursuit of that elusive sensation—the spark that turns fleeting thoughts into something immortal…it’s about that serendipitous moment when time and space align, allowing you to capture lightning in a bottle.” New album Back Into the Dream is out in February.
—
MARIKA HACKMAN – “HANGING”
“‘Hanging’ is reflecting on a difficult past relationship and how you can trap yourself in a situation where you’re unable to grow into the next stage of your life,” Marika says. “The line ‘yeah you were a part of me / i’m so relieved it hurts’ is describing how painful it still is to break up even if it’s not right.” New album Big Sigh is out in January.
—
WIKI & TONY SELZTER – “THAT AINT PAT”
Wiki and Tony Seltzer will release a new collaborative album, 14K Figaro, in November, and you can read about new single “That Aint Pat” here.
