Sophie Ellis-Bextor racked up a string of UK hit singles in ’00s with her brand of sophistipop disco, but was never able to replicate that success in the US where she was barely known…until filmmaker Emerald Fennell used her infectious 2001 single “Murder on the Dancefloor” for the very memorable final scene of her 2023 film Saltburn. When the film hit streaming, the song became a viral hit via TikTok and entered the Billboard Hot 100 in January, peaking at #51, and making it her first song to chart in the US. It also climbed all the way to #2 in the UK.
Capitalizing on the success, Sophie reissued the song as the lead track on a new EP with remixes by PNAU, Jewels & Stone, and more. She’s also releasing “Murder on the Dancefloor” as a 7″ single in the US on Friday. Stream the EP below.
Sophie is in NYC as we speak and will perform “Murder on the Dancefoor” tonight on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She’s also announced her first-ever NYC show, happening June 6 at Webster Hall. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 16 at 10 AM.
So far, that’s the only North American show on Sophie’s schedule but hopefully more will be announced. She does have European dates in March, and UK dates later in the year with both Nile Rodgers & Chic and The Human League. All dates are listed below.
