Kate Bush didn’t attend Friday night’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, but her segment of the gala event was still pretty special. Self-proclaimed Biggest Fan, Big Boi, gave the induction speech, saying he fell in love with her music in middle school and listened to “Running Up That Hill” everyone morning on his bike on the way to school and has been obsessed ever since.
“On the surface, our music is obviously very different,” Big Boi said, answering his own question of what does Kate Bush have to do with hip hop. “But in important ways, they’re exactly the same. What I love about Kate’s music is that you never know what sound you’re going to hear next. She ignores anything that seems like a formula and instead just does what she wants to do…just like me!”
Then St. Vincent came out to perform “Running Up That Hill,” Kate’s single that went to #3 in the US in 2022, a mere 37 years after it was released.
